RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Flyers lost two playoff games to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and were shut out in Game 1 against Carolina.

But none of them hurt as much as losing on Monday.

That's because the Flyers coughed up an early 2-0 lead and eventually let the game slip through their fingers in overtime.

Taylor Hall scored the game-winner for Carolina at 18:54 of overtime to beat the Flyers 3-2 and take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 Eastern Conference semifinals.

Game 3 will be back in Philadelphia on Thursday.

Hall scored on a scrum in front of the net. Flyers goalie Dan Vladar made the first save, but couldn't cover the rebound with his glove and Hall poked it past him for the game-winner.

It was a brutal loss for the Flyers, who played a significantly better game than in Game 1.

For the first time in eight playoff games, the Flyers actually scored in the first period - not once, but twice. And 39 seconds apart, to boot, as Jamie Drysdale and Sean Couturier built the 2-0 lead.

But the Flyers couldn't find the net again.

Drysdale's goal was on the power play, but from that point forward, they had six more man advantages and couldn't find the net.

They had some opportunities in overtime as well. Trevor Zegras and Christian Dvorak worked a give and go that just missed, and Matvei Michkov had a clean look from the high slot and shot wide.

The most egregious miss though came with about five minutes to play in overtime when Travis Konecny had a breakaway with the game on his stick, and shot wide from about 12 feet.

Meanwhile, in regulation, Carolina methodically worked their way back into the game. Nikolai Ehlers scored a power play goal in the first period to trim the Flyers lead to one.

Vladar seemed like he wasn't going to allow another one, until Seth Jarvis took a pass from Ehlers in the right circle and snapped on past Vladar to tie the score with just 8:39 to play in regulation.

The Flyers dictated play for most of overtime, but couldn't get one past Frederik Andersen, and now head home in a 2-0 hole.
