A nonprofit has unveiled a conceptual design for an ambitious housing and community development project in Doylestown Borough aimed at fostering inclusion for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Next Step Programs, per the Bucks County Herald, presented plans Friday for “Adam’s Way,” a proposed mixed-use development featuring apartments, marketplace space and community areas designed to integrate residents of all abilities.
Executive Director Josh Fields said the project could include 57 apartments at a site along South Clinton Street, developed in partnership with Union Studio Architecture & Community Design.
The concept is intended to address a growing need for supportive housing while creating a shared living environment that promotes independence and connection, according to the article.
Named in honor of Bucks County resident Adam Sklar, who lived with Prader-Willi Syndrome, the project remains in early stages.
Officials said the effort has already secured $750,000 in early funding and $2 million toward land acquisition, with additional fundraising, zoning approvals and development steps still ahead.
