Walmart is planning upgrades at multiple stores across Pennsylvania, including locations in Montgomery County, as part of a broader effort to modernize its in-store and online shopping experience.

Among the stores slated for renovations are the Walmart Supercenter in Lower Salford Township on Sumneytown Pike and the Walmart Supercenter in Hilltown Township on Bethlehem Pike, on the border with Hatfield Township.

The company announced it will remodel 32 stores statewide, with six locations in Berks and Montgomery counties included in the plan, according to The Reporter

Work has already begun at the Lower Salford Township store and is expected to be completed this summer, while renovations at the Hilltown (aka Hatfield) location are scheduled to begin later this summer.

Each project is expected to take three to four months, though timelines may shift depending on construction schedules.

Upgrades will focus on improving store layouts, expanding product offerings — including healthier food options and trending items — and enhancing technology to support faster checkout and delivery, including same-day service in as little as one hour for many customers.

“By modernizing our stores, we’re making shopping faster, easier, and more convenient, all while empowering our teams to serve customers better and creating local opportunity,” said Annie Walker, senior vice president of Walmart’s East Business Unit, in a news release.

Walmart said it has invested more than $518 million in store upgrades across Pennsylvania over the past five years, with more than 650 stores nationwide expected to be remodeled by the end of this year.

In addition to store improvements, the company said it and the Walmart Foundation have contributed more than $42 million to nonprofits across the state, including efforts that have provided more than 19 million pounds of food to address hunger.
