A Doylestown-area church is inviting the community to lace up their running shoes for a cause that reaches far beyond the finish line.
Covenant Church will host a 5K run and fun walk called “Shred the Debt” on May 2 at Holicong Park, with proceeds aimed at eliminating medical debt for Bucks County residents.
The effort is part of a partnership with the national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt, which purchases outstanding medical bills for a fraction of their value and forgives them entirely.
Organizers said the goal is to raise $25,000, which could translate into significantly more relief due to the nonprofit’s model.
Each $40 registration is expected to wipe out roughly $350 in medical debt, turning individual participation into a multiplied impact for struggling families.
“Medical debt is a significant burden for many in our community who are already stretched financially,” said Mike Flannery, the church’s communications director. He noted that unexpected health crises often leave families facing overwhelming bills, adding that the event offers “an opportunity for Bucks County to rally and bring meaningful relief to our community,” regardless of religious affiliation.
Medical debt remains a leading driver of financial hardship nationwide, often forcing individuals to delay care or cope with added stress and anxiety. Through events like this, organizers hope to both reduce that burden locally and raise awareness about the broader issue.
The event will take place at Holicong Park, 5143 Route 202, Doylestown. For more information, to register or donate, visit https://covenantdoylestown.org/shredthedebt/
