Residents in the Doylestown area will have an opportunity to help save lives when a community blood drive comes to Plumstead Township next month.
The American Red Cross blood drive will be held Wednesday, April 1, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hanusey Park Community Center, 4757 Gordon Road. Officials are encouraging donors to schedule appointments in advance due to an ongoing urgent need for blood donations across the region.
Blood donations remain critical for hospitals treating trauma patients, individuals undergoing surgery, cancer patients and others requiring transfusions. The most common donation is whole blood, in which about a pint is collected during a process that typically takes about an hour. Some donors may also qualify for Power Red donations, a specialized donation that collects red blood cells while returning plasma and platelets to the donor.
The upcoming drive also comes with a small incentive. Donors who give blood between March 30 and April 12 will receive an exclusive Red Cross x Life is Good T-shirt, available in limited quantities while supplies last.
Community members can schedule appointments through the American Red Cross website or blood donor app, though walk-ins may be accepted if space allows.
