A Perkasie family is seeking community support after a devastating late-night house fire last week destroyed their home and left them temporarily displaced.
The fire broke out shortly before midnight Friday, March 6, at a two-story home in the 200 block of West Walnut Street in Perkasie Borough. Emergency dispatchers reported a fully involved dwelling fire with possible entrapment at about 11:51 p.m., prompting a large regional response. Firefighters arriving at 205 W. Walnut St. encountered heavy fire conditions with flames visible from the second floor of the home, according to emergency dispatch reports.
Crews from Perkasie, Sellersville, Chalfont, Milford Township, Hilltown Township, and West End fire companies, along with St. Luke’s/Grand View EMS, worked to battle the blaze after evacuation tones were sounded shortly after midnight and a second alarm was dispatched minutes later to bring additional resources to the scene. Authorities said no injuries were reported and it was believed no one was inside the home when the fire began. The Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
In the aftermath of the fire, family and friends have launched a fundraiser to help the residents rebuild.
Greg Biegel, his father Keith, fiancée Sarah, and their 13-year-old son Elan lost nearly all of their belongings in the fire, according to organizers. The family’s dog was also rescued but was hospitalized for smoke inhalation and is being treated at Hickory Veterinary Hospital in Plymouth Meeting, organizers said.
Biegel, a Warminster native and graduate of William Tennent High School, and his family are now facing immediate needs including clothing, food, medications, temporary housing, veterinary bills, and other daily essentials while they recover from the loss of their home.
A GoFundMe campaign created by friends and family had raised more than $7,000 of its $7,500 goal as of Monday, with more than 80 donations from community members.
Organizers said the funds will help cover hotel stays, food, and other necessities as the family begins the process of rebuilding.
