Authorities have identified the man whose body was discovered Wednesday night near an athletic field on the campus of Central Bucks West High School.
Shawn Kirby, 34, believed to be from Philadelphia and possibly experiencing homelessness, was identified Friday morning by Bucks County Chief Deputy Coroner Scott Croop, per the Bucks County Herald.
Kirby’s body was discovered around 8:23 p.m. Wednesday in the unit block of Memorial Drive, near practice fields along the Central Bucks West campus in Doylestown. According to Croop, a security guard located Kirby inside a portable toilet on the field.
Police had reportedly seen Kirby in the area in recent days, though Croop said the man had no known contact with police.
An autopsy was conducted Thursday, but the cause and manner of death remain pending, including the results of a toxicology report. Croop said no drug paraphernalia was found with the body, and Kirby was dressed appropriately for the weather when he was discovered.
The incident did not disrupt school operations Thursday.
In a message sent to families Wednesday night, Central Bucks West Principal Lyndell Davis and Interim Superintendent Dr. Charles Malone said police determined the situation appeared to be an isolated incident with no threat to students, staff, or the campus.
Police were called to the area near Pettine Field, one of the school’s practice fields along Memorial Drive near the Coach Pettine Sports Complex and the nearby YMCA. The roadway runs between Doylestown Borough and Doylestown Township, with portions of the school’s athletic facilities located on both sides of the street.
The investigation by Central Bucks Regional Police remains ongoing.
