Quakertown Police Chief Scott McElree has been placed on leave and was out on workers’ compensation following last week’s confrontation between police and Quakertown Community High School students during an off-campus walkout protesting ICE.

According to reporting by KYW Newsradio and WHYY, Quakertown Borough Solicitor Peter Nelson confirmed McElree was on leave, while WHYY reported the chief was on leave after a “violent confrontation” seen in multiple videos, including footage that appeared to show a student being placed in a chokehold.

The leave came amid mounting public pressure and ongoing questions in the community about accountability after five students were arrested in connection with the Feb. 20 incident, with the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office also facing calls for clarity on the status of the case.
