A Bensalem woman is facing multiple felony charges after authorities said she assaulted a correctional officer inside the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Lower Providence Township.
Laura C. Council, 41, of the 1800 block of Neshaminy Valley Drive, was charged Jan. 21 following an incident that occurred Dec. 17, 2025 in the L-5 housing unit of the jail at 60 Eagleville Road, according to court documents.
Investigators said Council was receiving a meal tray when she attempted to push past officers at her cell door. When a correctional sergeant intervened, Council allegedly grabbed the officer’s face, striking her eye, nose, cheek and chin, then pushed her backward into a wall and pulled her hair and scalp before staff restrained her.
The injured sergeant reported facial, spine and knee pain and was treated at a hospital, police said.
Authorities said photographs documented lacerations, and the officer was unable to return to duty until Dec. 29. Surveillance video, body-worn camera footage and internal reports were reviewed as part of the investigation by Montgomery County detectives, according to the complaint.
Council is charged with aggravated assault, assault by prisoner, and recklessly endangering another person.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
