Students in both Central Bucks and Pennridge school districts will learn from home Tuesday, as icy conditions remain across the region following the weekend winter storm.
Central Bucks School District officials announced a Flexible Instructional Day (FID), meaning school buildings will be closed while instruction continues remotely. In a message to families, Interim Superintendent Dr. Charles Malone said that although snowfall has ended, below-freezing temperatures are expected to keep secondary roads, sidewalks, parking lots and school grounds icy.
Calling a FID allows the district to prioritize safety while giving facilities, grounds and transportation crews more time to clear campuses, buses and access areas, Malone said. All after-school activities are canceled, and families are asked to review grade-level FID expectations on the district website.
A decision regarding school operations for Wednesday will be shared Tuesday.
Tuesday had been scheduled as the final day of the second marking period and an early dismissal day for Central Bucks secondary students. Because Monday was used as a traditional snow day with no instruction and Tuesday is now a FID, the next in-person school day will be Final Exam Day 2 for high schools and a full instructional day for middle schools, the district said. The following day back will serve as the end-of-marking-period early dismissal for secondary students.
Pennridge School District also announced a Flexible Instruction Day Tuesday. Students will learn from home through primarily asynchronous instruction, and the day will count as a regular school day that does not need to be made up. All after-school sports and activities are canceled.
The Pennridge School Board meeting originally rescheduled for Tuesday evening will now be held Monday, Feb. 2, at 6:30 p.m. Committee meetings previously scheduled for Feb. 2 have been moved to Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
