Chapman Road Bridge closed through June as repairs continue in Doylestown Township

Plans initially called for a full bridge replacement during the summer of 2025, ideally while schools were out, but the timing and scope ultimately remained under PennDOT’s control

Motorists in Doylestown Township should plan for an extended detour as repairs continue on the Chapman Road Bridge, with the road remaining closed to all traffic around the clock.

Supervisors Chairwoman Jennifer Herring said Tuesday night that work on the bridge is underway and is expected to be completed by June 30, 2026. The bridge spans Pine Run near Pine Run Road, with the run ending at Pine Run Reservoir and Wildlife Sanctuary.

During the closure, Chapman Road is shut down 24 hours a day between Ferry Road and Pine Run Road. A full detour is in place directing drivers to use Pine Run Road, Limekiln Road, and Ferry Road. Township officials reiterated that the closure has been in effect since Oct. 27, 2025, and will remain until repairs are finished.

The current project follows a series of safety-related actions tied to the aging bridge. In August 2024, the Chapman Road Bridge was abruptly closed after a PennDOT inspection uncovered structural degradation. The bridge was temporarily reopened later that month with a 10-ton weight limit while engineers evaluated its condition.

Township Manager Stephanie Mason said at the time that PennDOT required the closure until an appropriate weight restriction could be determined.

Plans initially called for a full bridge replacement during the summer of 2025, ideally while schools were out, but the timing and scope ultimately remained under PennDOT’s control. Township officials now say the current repair work will keep the bridge closed through the end of June 2026, with detours remaining in place until construction is complete.
