They will trade badges for bathrobes and radios for rally towels, if only for a moment, as officers from New Britain Township Police Department prepare to take the plunge at Citizens Bank Park in support of Special Olympics Pennsylvania.
The department is once again participating in the annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge on Feb. 21 at noon, a high-energy, teeth-chattering fundraiser that supports athletic programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities across the commonwealth.
The Polar Plunge raises critical funding for Special Olympics Pennsylvania, which provides year-round Olympic-style sports training and competition while promoting fitness, confidence, and joy for thousands of athletes.
New Britain Township Police said the event is about far more than braving icy water, calling it a chance to support a mission that builds courage, inclusion, and opportunity in communities across Bucks County and beyond.
As of Wednesday, the New Britain Township Police team had raised $916 toward its $1,000 goal, placing it at the top of the local fundraising leaderboard and just shy of the finish line. The team’s six members currently lead other law enforcement plunge teams from across the region, including groups from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Chester County, and several municipal police departments.
Organizers emphasized that the plunge is a true team effort, inviting residents to support the cause through online donations or by mailing checks directly to Special Olympics Pennsylvania. Donations help ensure athletes can continue to train, compete, and experience the thrill of victory, no matter the temperature.
Those looking to support the New Britain Township Police Polar Plunge team can donate online through the Special Olympics Pennsylvania fundraising page. With the goal nearly in sight, officers said every contribution helps turn a cold leap into a lasting impact.
