Numerous emergency responders were called Tuesday morning to a reported hazardous materials incident at Airgas Therapeutics/Scott Medical Products along Easton Road in Plumstead Township.
According to emergency dispatch information, a chlorine, later changed to fluorine, leak was reported at the facility at 6141 Easton Road, near Stump Road, at about 9:59 a.m. Tuesday. The incident prompted a response from Bucks County Special Operations after sprinklers activated inside the building.
Officials said employees inside the Airgas/Scott Medical building were evacuated, but no evacuation of nearby homes or surrounding businesses was ordered.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, and the situation appeared to be contained to the facility.
Scott Medical Products manufactures respiratory protection and medical devices.
The cause of the chlorine release and the extent of any damage were under investigation as of Tuesday morning.
Further updates were expected as hazmat crews continued their response. There is no visible fire.
Responding units include Plumsteadville Fire, Point Pleasant Fire, Midway Fire, Dublin Fire, Doylestown Fire, Ottsville Fire, and Bucks County HIRT/BCSO. Delaware Valley Fire Co. (Erwinna) and New Hope-Eagle Fire Co. are covering for Point Pleasant Fire.
