A dog thrown from a moving vehicle along a local roadway is getting medical treatment as investigators review more than 1,000 tips from the public.
The Tullytown Borough Police Department and the Bucks County SPCA Police are investigating the the incident, which occurred last Tuesday evening on Old Bristol Pike near the Tullytown Borough border with Falls Township.
Tullytown Borough Officer John Crichton said the investigation was ongoing as of this week.
The Bucks County SPCA reported that witnesses saw the dog being tossed from a moving car.
The animal was later transported by police to the SPCA shelter in Lahaska, and a veterinarian discovered the dog was suffering from both minor wounds related to the fall and “serious pre-existing medical conditions,” authorities said.
“We are deeply concerned that this dog may have experienced cruel treatment prior to this violent act,” the SPCA said in a statement.
To assist in the criminal investigation, the Bucks County SPCA is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible.
Tullytown Borough police, who previously described the act as “not only cruel but criminal,” said the community response has been “overwhelming.”
Officers are reviewing more than 1,000 messages and leads received since the investigation was announced last week.
“Our department maintains a zero-tolerance stance on animal abuse,” the agency said, adding that it plans to pursue criminal charges against anyone involved.
The dog remains safe and is continuing its recovery under the care of the SPCA.
Authorities are still seeking assistance from the public and are asking drivers who were in the area last Tuesday to review dash camera footage or surveillance video for suspicious activity.
