PECO will begin a series of electric infrastructure improvements in New Britain Township starting Friday, as part of a $200,000 investment aimed at strengthening the local electric distribution system.
According to PECO, the project is designed to improve reliability during damaging storms, reduce the frequency of outages, and support the growing adoption of solar power systems and electric vehicles. Work is expected to continue through March 15, 2026, weather permitting.
Crews will use specialized machinery to install new conduit and underground electrical cable throughout the township. PECO said any portions of yards or streets impacted during construction will be restored once work is completed. New equipment, including pad-mount transformers, may also be installed or replaced as part of the project. Those devices help regulate voltage within neighborhoods and require several feet of clearance for ongoing maintenance.
Work will take place on Fairwood Drive, Sheffield Court, Stockton Court, Williamson Court, Poplar Road, and Julie Road, with construction handled by PECO crews and contractors.
PECO noted that temporary service interruptions may be necessary at times to safely complete the work. The utility said it will coordinate with affected residents in advance to provide notice of planned outages and construction activity.
