The Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County has approved more than $3.8 million in funding to support local public safety, infrastructure, and municipal services.

The authority’s board of directors approved the $3,823,526.68 in grant awards during a public meeting Dec. 19 at its Bristol Borough headquarters.

A total of 41 separate grants were awarded after an application process held in recent months.

The Municipal Grant Program was established in 2008 and is designed to assist municipalities most impacted by the operations of the Parx Casino in Bensalem Township.

The program is funded by 1 percent of the gross terminal revenue from the casino.

“By investing in projects that strengthen public safety, modernize infrastructure, and enhance municipal services, the Municipal Grant Program delivers lasting benefits to our communities,” said Ralph DiGuiseppe, chairman of the authority board.

DiGuiseppe said the latest awards were the result of “thoughtful planning by local leaders” to address municipal needs and quality-of-life issues linked to gaming impacts.

Under the Pennsylvania Race Horse and Development Gaming Act of 2004, eligibility for the program is limited to Bensalem Township, Bucks County government, and municipalities contiguous with Bensalem Township or having boundaries in a contiguous municipality.

The program was made possible through legislation introduced and supported by former State Sen. Tommy Tomlinson, a Republican.

Since its inception 17 years ago, the Redevelopment Authority has awarded more than $67 million to support local projects through the grant program.
