A third person has died following a Dec. 23 explosion at the Silver Lake Nursing Home and Bristol Health and Rehab Center, authorities confirmed Monday.
The victim, a resident of the facility, died at St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township, according to Bucks County Coroner Patti Campi.
The resident’s name was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
The blast previously claimed the lives of 52-year-old Muthoni Nduthu, a nurse at the facility and resident of Bristol Township, and an unidentified female resident who died at a Philadelphia hospital.
James Garrow, a spokesperson for the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office, said it could take months to release further details regarding the female resident’s death. He stated the office must finalize the death certificate before information is made public.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading a multi-agency investigation into the explosion, which local officials said appears to have been fueled by natural gas.
While the majority of injured staff and residents were discharged from hospitals by before the end of 2025, some remained under medical care going into the new year, officials said.
The NTSB, which maintains jurisdiction over pipelines, is being assisted by several agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, and local fire and police agencies.
NTSB spokesperson Peter Knudson stated before the new year that investigators detected various levels of natural gas in the soil near the Tower Road facility.
According to the NTSB, the probe is currently focusing on the pipeline system, human factors and operator training, and the general operating environment.
Sources familiar with the facility’s operations told LevittownNow.com that documents and records have already been provided to federal officials.
Dozens of residents displaced from the explosion have been transferred to other facilities owned by Saber Healthcare, which owns the Bristol Township facility.
