Two Central Bucks communities are preparing for a winter storm expected to impact the region Sunday into Monday, with emergency declarations aimed at keeping roads clear for plows and first responders.
A Snow Emergency will take effect in Warrington Township at 8 a.m. Sunday. Meanwhile, Warminster Township has issued a Declaration of Disaster Emergency effective at noon Sunday through Tuesday.
Warrington officials said the township is closely monitoring the storm forecast and urged residents to assist with public safety and snow removal operations.
Due to a regional salt shortage affecting all of Bucks County, additional salt supplies are unavailable. Limited quantities could affect road conditions, particularly during heavier snowfall.
Residents are asked to:
Officials noted that salt is less effective when pavement temperatures drop below approximately 15 degrees and that roads may quickly become snow-covered again during active snowfall. Lower-volume residential streets may also take longer to clear than main roads.
Shoveling or blowing snow back into the street can create hazardous conditions and re-cover plowed areas. Snow should be placed on lawns or behind the curb, not in the roadway.
Residents are also reminded to clear sidewalks, driveways and fire hydrants as required by ordinance, prepare for possible power outages and avoid non-essential travel once snowfall begins.
Warminster Township police will enforce all snow-related ordinances during that period.
Township officials reminded residents that it is unlawful to park or allow a vehicle to be parked on any township road or street once an emergency has been declared until it is rescinded.
Township ordinance also prohibits residents from throwing, shoveling, plowing or otherwise moving snow or ice from sidewalks or private property into the public street.
Warminster Police are asking residents to remove all vehicles from roadways for the duration of the emergency to prevent delays in snowplowing operations.
Both townships encouraged residents to monitor official communications for updates as the storm progresses and thanked the community for its cooperation in helping keep roads safe and accessible.
