Taryn Hatcher isn't the only person who won't be returning to Phillies television broadcasts in 2026.
When NBC Sports Philadelphia sent out their press release on 2026 coverage of the Phillies earlier this week, Mike Schmidt was not mentioned. Tom McCarthy said Saturday on X that the Hall of Famer will not be back in 2026:
Unfortunately, no. Mike will be around but not ok the air. https://t.co/Zuvlpe9ftR
Schmidt, the greatest player in franchise history, had been featured on various weekend broadcasts of home games since 2014.
Schmidt was in the booth as a color commentator for the regular-season finale against the Minnesota Twins on Sept. 28, but that was one of just four games he did last season, per our tracker. Now 76, he may just no longer have the desire to do it, although one would think with the Phillies hosting the All-Star Game this summer, Schmidt will still be around at Citizens Bank Park throughout the summer.
The Phillies began to mix in 2008 World Series MVP Cole Hamels as an occasional third mic last year, and he will return in a similar role in 2025.
