A snow emergency has been declared in Doylestown Township effective Sunday, as a winter storm moves into the region.
During the emergency, parking on all public streets is prohibited to allow for efficient plowing and road maintenance. Township officials said vehicles left on roadways can significantly delay snow removal and create hazards for emergency responders.
In addition, township code strictly prohibits plowing, shoveling or blowing snow onto public roads. Violators may face fines.
Residents are reminded to clear sidewalks and driveways carefully and to give snowplows plenty of room to operate as crews work to keep roads passable.
Borough restrictions also active
In neighboring Doylestown Borough, the mayor has declared a Winter Storm Emergency beginning at noon Sunday and lasting until designated snow emergency routes are cleared.
Cars parked on official snow emergency routes in the borough are subject to ticketing and towing. Officials have urged residents to avoid street parking whenever possible, even on non-emergency streets, to allow plows to clear curb to curb.
To assist residents, the lower levels of the Bucks County parking garages at Broad and Union streets and Broad and Court streets are open and free to borough residents during the storm, with vehicles required to be removed by 6 a.m. on days the county is open.
Both municipalities are asking residents to stay off the roads during heavy snowfall, avoid pushing snow into the street and remain patient as public works crews prioritize major routes before moving into residential neighborhoods.
Officials thanked residents for their cooperation, noting that clear streets and open access points are critical to maintaining emergency services during and after the storm.
