For nearly a century, Levy School Bus Company has been more than a transportation provider — it has been a cornerstone of the Quakertown community. Now, in its fourth generation of family ownership and approaching its 100th anniversary, the company faces an unexpected and deeply challenging moment that could bring its long-standing legacy to an end.

Founded 99 years ago, Levy School Bus Company has proudly served generations of local families, building a reputation rooted in safety, reliability, and community commitment. For more than 60 years, Levy has provided student transportation services for the Quakertown Community School District, safely transporting thousands of students to and from school each day.

In January, the District quietly placed its student transportation contract out for competitive bid — typically a public process, but one that places Levy’s decades-long partnership in jeopardy. The outcome of the bidding process could determine whether the company will be able to continue operating and reach its historic 100-year milestone.

“This company has been part of our family for generations and part of this community for nearly a century,” said a spokesperson for Levy School Bus Company. “We’ve driven parents, grandparents, and now their children. Our drivers know the roads, the families and the responsibility that comes with transporting students safely every day.”

Over the past six decades serving the QCSD, Levy has employed local drivers, mechanics and staff, contributing to the local economy while maintaining a deeply personal approach to service. Many employees have spent their entire careers with the company, reflecting the family-oriented culture that has defined Levy since its founding.

As the company nears its centennial year, the possibility of losing its long-standing contract raises concerns not only for the business and its employees, but for the broader community that has relied on Levy for generations.

Levy, along with three other school bus contractors competing for the transportation contract, have been invited to deliver a brief presentation at the upcoming Quakertown Community School District Board meeting on Feb. 26, 2026, beginning at 7 p.m. The contract is expected to be awarded during the meeting.
