The Hilltown Township Police Department recognized one of its own with a promotion during a recent Board of Supervisors meeting.
Officer James Towhey was formally promoted to the rank of detective during a ceremony held Jan. 28, attended by family, friends, fellow officers and members of the public. Bucks County Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage administered the oath of office.
Towhey was first sworn in with the department in January 2017 and spent six years assigned to the patrol division before transferring to the criminal investigations division as a criminal investigator, according to the department.
In addition to his investigative duties, Towhey is a certified crash reconstructionist, a crisis negotiator with the Central Bucks Special Response Team and a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
Department officials said the promotion reflects Towhey’s experience, specialized training and continued service to the community.
