A Philadelphia man is facing felony charges after police say he took a woman’s vehicle without permission from an apartment complex parking lot in Doylestown Township.
Doylestown Township Police Department charged Montique Spann, 58, of the 1900 block of 74th Avenue, Philadelphia, with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to a criminal complaint.
Police said the incident occurred between 9 p.m. Jan. 19 and 3 p.m. Jan. 20, 2026 at the Grundy Hall Apartments, 1290 Almshouse Road.
According to the affidavit, the vehicle’s owner told officers Spann had been visiting her apartment the night of Jan. 19. The victim said she fell asleep around 9 p.m. while Spann was still there. When she woke early the next morning, Spann was gone, police said.
Later that afternoon, the victim went to the parking lot and discovered her blue 2008 Ford Focus was missing. The vehicle was valued at about $3,000, according to the complaint.
Police said the victim contacted Spann, who told her he had the vehicle and was in Philadelphia. The vehicle owner told investigators Spann did not have permission to take or use her car and had never been authorized to drive it.
Spann is free on 10% of $50,000 cash bail ahead of a Feb. 23 preliminary hearing before Magisterial DIstrict Judge Mark Douple.
