West Rockhill Supervisors back matching funds for historical sketches project

The board also approved a $15,000 proposal to take inventory of all township traffic lights in order to correct any deficiencies

The West Rockhill Board of Supervisors recently agreed to provide matching funds for a proposed sketch project of local historical properties.

Initially pitched by resident Fred Diseroad at the board’s December meeting, the sketches are designed to generate township revenue while decorating the municipal building and honoring local history. Diseroad requested $6,000 for the project.

At the board’s most recent meeting, chairman Jay Keyser expressed opposition to township funding for the project, pointing to private funding as a preferable solution.

“I do believe that these photos are very valuable to the township and community, but I stand by my true feeling that these funds should be generated privately and not through the township,” said Keyser.

Supervisor Hal Schirmer then suggested matching funds, an idea echoed by multiple community members.

“We get donations, and the township manages it,” said Schirmer. “You see that for WHYY and other nonprofits. You find someone who’s got deeper pocket, and you match donations.”

“I think it’s very important to have that art hanging here,” added resident and tax collector Suzanne Clark. “It’s a representation of our township. Art is priceless.”

Following some discussion, the board unanimously approved a motion to provide matching funds for the sketch project. Keyser additionally committed to ascertaining interest from local business.

While Diseroad was unable to provide a specific timeframe for the project, Schirmer noted that publishing often takes nine-to-twelve months.

Traffic signal proposal

The board approved a $15,000 proposal to take inventory of all township traffic lights in order to correct any deficiencies, establish compliance with contemporary standards and prepare for grant applications.

Other noteworthy items included the availability of 2025 Holiday House pool membership rates until March 31, the sale of $2 green tote bags by the township conservation committee and an open alternate position on the Park and Recreation Board. Interested parties should fill out a volunteer application and return it to township manager Greg Lippincott at [email protected] or at the Township Building at 1028 Ridge Road Sellersville, PA 18960.

The next West Rockhill Board of Supervisors meeting is on February 18 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit westrockhilltownship.org.
