The family of a 23-year-old woman found dead in Telford last month is searching for answers as the homicide investigation remains ongoing with no charges filed.
Maria Popol, who was discovered unresponsive in an apartment March 15, has since been returned to her native Guatemala for burial.
Authorities have released limited information about the case, confirming only that the death is being investigated as a homicide, according to PhillyBurbs.com. The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office has not identified a suspect or person of interest.
Family members told PhillyBurbs they believe Popol’s estranged boyfriend — who previously lived with her — may have fled to Honduras after deleting his social media accounts.
While he has not been charged, relatives raised questions about his departure as they continue to press for updates, per the report.
Popol had recently been preparing to move into a new apartment and remained in close contact with her family, who said it was unusual when communication suddenly stopped. Described by loved ones and coworkers as kind and hardworking, she had been supporting family members in Guatemala while working locally.
The case has left relatives grappling with both emotional and financial hardship, as they continue to call for justice while authorities maintain that the investigation is active.
