IRON HILL BREWERY CLOSURE

Local restaurant group Stove & Co. steps in after Iron Hill's abrupt closure

Stove & Co. is striking while the Iron is still hot and offering a gift card exchange at all its restaurants

Iron Hill may be gone, but its gift cards have a second life — on the stoves of a neighboring restaurant chain.

With Iron Hill Brewery’s local exit due to bankruptcy, Stove & Co. Restaurants has stepped in to honor unused gift cards, ensuring customers do not lose out.

On Facebook, Stove & Tap Lansdale posted that the company – which also runs Stove & Tap West Chester, Joey Chops, Rooster’s Glenside, Al Pastor Exton, Al Pastor Havertown, Good Bad & Ugly, and Revival Pizza Pub – is saddened by the closure of a community friend.

“To honor them, we’re offering a special treat,” said Stove & Co.

Customers holding Iron Hill gift cards can show them at any location to get a $25 Stove & Co. gift card in return.

The offer is for a limited time.

On Thursday, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant abruptly shut down all its locations and filed for bankruptcy, ahead of its much-advertised Oktoberfest weekend. The company cited ongoing financial challenges as the primary reason for the decision.

According to Breweries in PA, one internal notice to staff said prior communications about financial struggles had been withheld (for strategic reasons), but that leadership had been “working behind the scenes to secure new funding” before ultimately concluding it couldn’t be sustained.

The closures come in the wake of recent shuttering of some of its restaurants, including in Chestnut Hill, and in Voorhees and Newark, NJ.

In its public communications on Facebook, Iron Hill expressed gratitude to patrons and even left open the possibility of returning in the future.
