Indian Creek Foundation has appointed Dr. Tim Barksdale as its next Chief Executive Officer, the nonprofit announced this week.
Barksdale began orientation Sept. 8 and will work alongside the leadership team and board of directors before officially stepping into the role Nov. 1.
He succeeds Dean Stoesz, who announced his retirement in April and will conclude his 10-year tenure as CEO at the end of October. Stoesz called his work at Indian Creek “the most rewarding of my career” and said he is committed to a smooth transition.
Barksdale brings more than three decades of leadership and advocacy in the intellectual and developmental disabilities field. Most recently, he served as Senior Executive Director of Clinical Services at Merakey I/DD. He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, is a licensed master social worker, and has earned clinical certification from the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed.
Board Chairman Brad Bishop said staff input played an important role in the search process.
“We feel fortunate to have identified such an accomplished leader to drive this momentum,” Bishop said in a news release, noting the board looked beyond the organization’s recent 50th anniversary to its next phase of growth.
Barksdale becomes only the fourth CEO in the Souderton-based organization’s history. He said he looks forward to “building on a strong foundation” while fostering a compassionate, trauma-informed culture for staff and individuals alike.
