Senior Hannah Cornes showed why her versatility is so valuable to the Souderton field hockey team, scoring one goal and making a key defensive save as the Indians defeated Central Bucks East 2-0 in a Suburban One League Colonial Division matchup Tuesday.
According to The Mercury, Cornes struck midway through the second quarter, sending home a ball on a penalty corner to give Souderton the lead. Minutes later, with the Indians still ahead 1-0, she turned away a dangerous shot that slipped past the goalkeeper, keeping Big Red in front. Lydia Lynch added the second goal late in the first half, and Souderton’s defense took it from there to preserve the shutout, according to the gameplay report.
The victory pushed Souderton’s record to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the division.
The Indians have not lost since Sept. 2 at CB West and currently sit fifth in the District 1-3A rankings.
Central Bucks East, now 4-5 overall, applied more pressure in the second half and earned more corners, but could not break through. The Patriots dropped their second straight and fourth in five games, according to the report.
Souderton will continue its homestand against Springfield (Montco) on Thursday.
