Levittown native Kathy Romano has been named the new host of the morning show on B101, which marks her return to the radio airwaves.
“The Kathy Romano Show” will debut next Tuesday and air weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Romano will also host a solo show from 10 a.m. to noon on the Audacy-owned adult contemporary station.
Romano’s morning show will feature co-host Bobby Smith and executive producer Laura Boss.
The station, which is promoting the show as having “engaging conversations, fresh lifestyle content, and fun, family-friendly features,” said Romano’s hiring signals a “new era” for the station.
Station management said she will “bring her signature wit, warmth and local charm ready to reign as B101’s ‘Queen Bee.'”
“After 22 years in Philadelphia radio, I know how precious that daily connection with listeners really is—being part of their morning routines, their family moments, their everyday lives,” Romano said. “I’m thrilled to be spending my mornings with both the loyal B101 family and all the listeners who are following me on this new journey alongside Bobby and Laura!”
Romano was let go from 93.3 WMMR in May by owner Beasley Media Group, a move that followed cuts at other stations. Her departure shocked longtime listeners of “The Preston and Steve Show.”
B101’s morning show had an opening after longtime co-host Jenn Ryan retired earlier this year after 16 years with the station.
“Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life,” Ryan said at the time.
David Yadgaroff, senior vice president and market manager for Audacy Philadelphia, called Romano “smart, fun, relatable and deeply connected to our community.”
“Her energy and personality align perfectly with what B101 listeners love,” Yadgaroff said. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to the Audacy family and confident she’ll lead this new chapter of mornings with authenticity, heart and a whole lot of fun.”
Romano, who grew up in Falls Township’s Levittown section, is a graduate of Pennsbury High School and is set to be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame next month.
