Carson Wentz throwing passes to Justin Jefferson this week is the universe writing a comedic episode of the NFL soap opera for Eagles fans

Eagles fans are finally going to get to see what they wanted to see  five years ago - Carson Wentz throwing to Justin Jefferson.

That's right, Wentz is getting the start for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday after multiple reports that starting QB J.J. McCarthy will miss the Week 3 matchup against Cincinnati with a sprained ankle that he apparently suffered in an ugly Sunday Night Football loss to Atlanta.

It's a delicious storyline being handed to us from the football gods.

Wentz, who didn't sign with the Vikings until Aug. 24, will likely be under center for a couple weeks at least, if not longer, in what is probably his last chance to prove he deserves to stay in the NFL.

He could write his own redemption story, too. He'll have all the toys to play with. He's made spot starts in other cities...

...but this is head coach Kevin O'Connell's offense and he'll be throwing to stars like Jefferson, who the Eagles famously passed over to draft Jalen Reagor instead.

He also has a quality tight end in T.J. Hockenson. This is Wentz's best opportunity since he was a starter for the Eagles to prove that he can still play in the NFL.

He just has to manage the game. Minnesota has a solid defense and has allowed just three touchdowns in two games.

If Wentz is successful, and McCarthy's recovery time lingers a touch longer  than the 2-4 week timeline reported by ESPN, you know what that means, right?

Oct. 19, in Minnesota. Wentz vs. the Eagles.

We all need that to take up the sports radio airways for two weeks, don't we?

Don't we?
