An overturned dump truck shut down Swamp Road in Buckingham Township early Wednesday and prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order due to hazardous materials, according to police.
Buckingham Township Police said the crash occurred at about 6 a.m. in the 1400 block of Swamp Road between Creamery Road and Mozart Road. Crews from Central Bucks Ambulance and the Lingohocken Fire Company freed the driver, who was turned over to EMS for treatment of injuries.
Hazmat threat contained
Responders discovered hazardous materials aboard the truck, leading authorities to issue a reverse 911 call advising nearby residents to shelter in place. That order was later lifted after the scene was secured and the threat was eliminated, police said.
The roadway remains closed in both directions for an extended period while crews work to clean up the crash site.
Police thanked the Lingohocken Fire Company, Warwick Fire Company, Montgomery County Bomb Squad, Bucks County Hazardous Materials Team, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and Northampton Township Fire Department for assisting with the incident.
Authorities advised drivers to continue avoiding the area and seek alternate routes while Swamp Road remains closed.
