PECO customers in New Britain Township and Chalfont Borough will have their power interrupted for emergency work Tuesday night due to the massive power surge that occurred by Airport Square Shopping Center in Montgomery Township Tuesday morning.
"For safety reasons, your electricity will be shut off ... from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.," a PECO text message notification stated. "We understand this is a significant inconvenience."
According to a Montgomery County ReadyMontco emergency notification system Tuesday afternoon, a high-voltage PECO line came down Tuesday morning, destroying the wiring and components that power and control the traffic signal at Welsh and North Wales roads.
According to Montgomery Township Fire Marshal Bill Wiegman a roll-off Dumpster delivery knocked out at least six electrical lines behind Airport Square Shopping Center, sending a power surge that destroyed traffic signals along North Wales Road.
