BUCKS COUNTY POWER OUTAGE

PECO disrupts power Tuesday night for Chalfont, New Britain residents for Montgomery Township power surge repairs

The energy provider informed customers via electronic communications about a half hour before interruption

PECO customers in New Britain Township and Chalfont Borough will have their power interrupted for emergency work Tuesday night due to the massive power surge that occurred by Airport Square Shopping Center in Montgomery Township Tuesday morning.

"For safety reasons, your electricity will be shut off ... from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.," a PECO text message notification stated. "We understand this is a significant inconvenience."

According to a Montgomery County ReadyMontco emergency notification system Tuesday afternoon, a high-voltage PECO line came down Tuesday morning, destroying the wiring and components that power and control the traffic signal at Welsh and North Wales roads.

According to Montgomery Township Fire Marshal Bill Wiegman a roll-off Dumpster delivery knocked out at least six electrical lines behind Airport Square Shopping Center, sending a power surge that destroyed traffic signals along North Wales Road.

Residents and businesses experiencing outages in their homes should report a damage claim to PECO by calling 1-800-494-4000 or visiting https://www.peco.com/.../customer.../contact-us/damage-claim. Homeowners and renters have the option to open a claim with their respective homeowners insurance provider.
