Pennridge girls soccer leaned on its trademark toughness — and a little late-game resilience — to move one step closer to another deep postseason run.
The top-seeded Rams battled through 110 minutes of regulation and overtime against No. 16 Council Rock South before pulling out a 4-2 shootout win following a 1-1 draw in the District 1-4A second round Thursday night. According to gameplay coverage from The Reporter, senior goalkeeper Cece DeMoss made the decisive save, and sophomore Harper Posey buried the clinching kick to send Pennridge (16-3-0) into Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Pennridge took a 1-0 lead late in the second half when Kendra Palena volleyed home a rebound from close range after a set piece from Addy Mills, a Duquesne recruit, per the reprot. But Council Rock South (10-8-2) equalized with just 1:24 left in regulation as senior Gianna Kirlin capitalized on a blocked clearance to tie the match and force extra time.
Head coach Lucas Kriner credited both teams for a physical, tactical battle that lived up to the Rams’ newly adopted team mantra — “gritty, determined, strategic, dominant.”
DeMoss, a Marist commit, rebounded from the late goal with a pivotal stop in penalties, saying she relied on her instincts, according to the article.
Pennridge will host No. 8 Neshaminy in the district quarterfinals at noon Saturday. The Rams defeated Neshaminy 3-1 during the regular season but know, as midfielder Catherine Howley put it, “we’re not the same team we were in August — and neither are they.”
