North Penn field hockey made it a clean sweep over Central Bucks East this season — but not without a fight.

The No. 13-seeded Knights held off their Suburban One League Colonial rival, 2-1, Monday night at North Penn High School to advance to the second round of the District 1-3A playoffs, according to The Mercury.

The victory marked their third one-goal win over the Patriots this year.

Senior captain Kylie Barwis opened the scoring late in the second quarter on a perfectly executed penalty corner. The play began with a Devon Crowley insert to Tallie Smink, whose grounded pass found Cissy Lewis in front. Lewis redirected the ball left to Barwis, who finished from close range.

The Knights carried that 1-0 lead through the third quarter behind steady defense and goalkeeper Kiley Moister’s nine saves, according to the gameplay report.

North Penn doubled its advantage early in the fourth quarter when Paige Shearer’s hustle created another scoring chance.

The Patriots responded with a late goal from Brynn Bonargo on a penalty corner with 3:45 to play, but North Penn’s defense tightened down the stretch to secure the win, according to the report.

East goalkeeper Camryn Puhalla turned in a strong performance with 12 saves. The loss ended CB East’s season at 9-10, while the Knights improved to 11-8 overall.

North Penn advances to face No. 4 Methacton, the Pioneer Athletic Conference champion, in the second round Wednesday at 6 p.m.
