A Warminster man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after police said he fell asleep at the wheel in January while high on marijuana and caused a head-on collision that left another driver with life-altering injuries, including a broken back.

An investigation by Warminster Township Police determined that Joseph Francis Huebner Jr., 36, of the 20th block of Driscoll Drive, was driving west on Bristol Road near Hatboro Road on the morning of Jan. 20, 2025, when his vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and struck another car head-on, police said. The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. on a snow-covered stretch of the two-lane road, where the speed limit is 45 mph.

Police said the impact left the other driver with a broken right ankle, broken wrist and a fractured back requiring the fusion of three vertebrae. The victim spent nearly a month in the hospital and inpatient rehabilitation and has since been unable to return to physical labor, according to police.

A witness traveling behind Huebner reportedly saw the Ford Fusion drift over the double yellow line twice before the collision. Police said Huebner later admitted to falling asleep while driving.

During the crash investigation, officers found marijuana and smoking paraphernalia in Huebner’s vehicle. Laboratory testing confirmed the substances contained marijuana, police said.

After a months-long investigation that included mechanical inspections and crash reconstruction, charges were filed Oct. 6 of felony aggravated assault by vehicle, and misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, and several summary traffic offenses.

Huebner is free on $15,000 unsecured bail and has a preliminary hearing on Nov. 24 before Magisterial District Judge Christopher E. O’Neill.

In 2017, Huebner was sentenced in Bucks County to one year of probation for pleading guilty to misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person, according to court records.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
