Bucks County Community College is celebrating its past and preparing for its future this fall, marking the 60th anniversary of its library while inviting prospective students and families to attend the Fall Open House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Newtown Campus.
At Bucks, students find high-quality education, real-world experience, and career-ready training within a supportive community. The college offers more than 90 programs of study in fields ranging from healthcare and business to the arts and technology, along with flexible transfer options for those pursuing bachelor’s degrees.
“Every student at Bucks can launch their future, whether that means attending a top university to pursue your bachelor’s degree or jumping into a great career,” said Yolonda Udvardy, Ed.D., interim vice president for enrollment management, in a news release. “The Open House is a hands-on, engaging event open to all students and families.”
Visitors to the Open House can tour the scenic campus, meet professors, explore academic programs, and learn about the college’s 2+2 Dual Admission Transfer Plan, which can save students 26% to 72% on the cost of a four-year degree. The event is free and open to the public. Check-in will take place at the Linksz Pavilion, 275 Swamp Road, Newtown. Registration is available at bucks.edu/openhouse.
The celebration of Bucks’ future comes as the college honors its roots. On Sept. 29, the Bucks County Community College Library marked its 60th anniversary with a presentation on the life and legacy of Lester Minkel, the college’s first librarian. Minkel’s family attended the program, which was led by librarian Kelly Deeny, who highlighted his efforts to establish the library’s foundation, including acquiring reference books featured at the 1964 World’s Fair and partnering with the Bucks County Free Library.
Bucks County Community College officially opened its doors to students on Sept. 29, 1965, during a national movement to expand access to higher education.
Today, Bucks operates campuses in Newtown, Bristol, and Perkasie, as well as a robust Bucks Online program serving students worldwide. Consistently ranked among the top community colleges in Pennsylvania, Bucks was recently named No. 2 in the state by SmartAsset and No. 3 by Niche, placing it among the top 10% of all two-year colleges nationwide.
