The North Penn girls volleyball team is off to its best start in program history, rolling to a 13-0 record after sweeping Pennridge in straight sets Tuesday night.

Junior middle hitter Maya Mikulski paced the Knights with eight kills, three aces and two blocks as they posted scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-14 in the SOL Continental match, according to gameplay coverage by The Mercury.

The Knights’ unbeaten run began with a five-set season-opening victory over Lansdale Catholic — last year’s PIAA Class 2A semifinalist — and has continued behind what players and coaches describe as improved chemistry.

“We’re all one unit,” Mikulski told The Mercury, noting the group’s balance and consistency. Head coach Jynell Brunt credited the team’s togetherness on and off the court as a difference from past seasons.

Along with Mikulski’s performance, senior Madlen Potrusilova added seven kills and several key digs, while sophomore Holland Van Ooyen contributed six kills. Senior Belle Mikulski chipped in three aces.

North Penn, ranked fourth in District 1-4A, next travels to Central Bucks West on Tuesday as it looks to extend a start that has already surpassed the 2008 squad’s 12-0 opening.

According to the report, Pennridge, now 4-8, dropped its third straight match and will host Lansdale Catholic in non-league play Monday.
