Warrington Police responded Saturday evening to a report of a possible shooting on the 2200 block of Matts Way, only to determine the situation stemmed from an intoxicated resident and an unloaded firearm.
According to police, officers were dispatched around 6:05 p.m. Saturday after a caller reported that a male was down inside a garage with a firearm nearby and that another man may have fled the area after an argument. Due to limited manpower, Warwick Township Police assisted at the scene.
Responding officers arrived within minutes and found the garage door open, with a man slumped forward on the floor and a handgun nearby, police said.
Police took cover and issued commands to the man, who appeared intoxicated and initially unresponsive. After repeated commands, the 54-year-old homeowner complied partially and was safely detained without incident.
Investigators determined that no shots were fired, and a search of the residence revealed no signs of a disturbance or assault. The firearm was confirmed to be unloaded, police said. The man, who appeared heavily intoxicated and had a small cut on his finger, was believed to have caused the blood seen on nearby surfaces, including a neighbor’s vehicle.
The incident reportedly began earlier in the evening when the man was removed from a local establishment and given a ride home. During that time, he became belligerent toward the individual who had driven him.
Police said the man was taken to the Warrington Township Police Department for evaluation and later released to a responsible party. No charges have been filed, and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
Officials said there was no foul play and no ongoing threat to the community.
