Democrats posted strong results in both New Britain Borough and New Britain Township in Tuesday’s general election, unofficially extending their presence across Central Bucks municipalities that have seen growing voter engagement in recent years.
However, both races saw a member of an opposing political party gain seats in local Bucks County government.
In New Britain Borough, James D. Donovan won a new four-year term as mayor with 752 votes (94.12%), facing 47 write-ins (5.88%).
Democrats also swept the four borough council seats, led by Loren L. Frasco with 642 votes (23.30%), followed by Maureen Loh (633; 22.98%) and Laura Price (632; 22.94%).
Libertarian candidate Rob Ronky collected 422 votes (15.32%) to clinch the fourth open seat, and fellow Libertarian Alexander Bentrim received 375 (13.61%).
Four nonpartisan write-ins totaled 51 votes combined.
In New Britain Township, incumbent MaryBeth McCabe retained against Republican Steven Groman, earning 2,966 votes (56.74%) to Groman’s 2,258 (43.20%) in the six-year supervisor race.
Republican Nicole Percetti, however, retained her seat against Democratic challenger Sarah Baik, winning with 2,807 votes (53.48%) over Baik's 2,442 votes (46.52%).
All votes are unofficial until certified by Bucks County Board of Elections.
