Dock Mennonite Academy’s baseball team reclaimed its spot atop District 1-1A with a 2-0 victory over Plumstead Christian Academy in the championship game at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth Tuesday afternoon.
After their impressive eight-year streak of district titles was broken in 2023, the Pioneers came back strong this season, according to The Reporter. The top-seeded team used this opportunity to erase the sting of last year’s semifinal loss.
Sophomore pitcher Ethan Kratz was a dominant force on the mound, throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings with 12 strikeouts, five walks, and just two hits allowed, per the report.
His performance under pressure, particularly with the game on the line, showcased his growth and determination. Ethan’s older brother, Brayden Kratz, was behind the plate as catcher, creating a memorable sibling battery for the team, according to the article.
The pivotal moment came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Brayden Kratz singled and took advantage of an off-target throw to advance to second base, according to the report. Ethan Kratz then hit a grounder that bounced past Plumstead’s second baseman, allowing Brayden to score the game’s first run. Ethan would later steal third and score on Luke Burleigh’s ground out for the final 2-0 scoreline, per the report.
Despite Plumstead Christian’s loss, pitcher Declan Glass put up a valiant fight, striking out 13 Dock batters and surrendering only four hits in six innings, according to game coverage.
The championship win marked Dock’s return to dominance in District 1-1A baseball, making up for last year’s semifinal exit.
According to the report, the Kratz brothers’ collaboration and clutch plays were central to Dock’s success, demonstrating resilience and team spirit in the face of pressure.
With this victory, Dock Mennonite Academy now advances to the PIAA-1A state playoffs. They will face District 11 champion Nativity BVM in the first round on June 1.
