The 2025 pool season at Menlo Aquatics Center will make a splashy and spirited debut with the first-ever Penguin Plunge, a playful new tradition introduced by Perkasie Borough to mark opening weekend.

The Center will officially open on Saturday at noon, although cooler temperatures have prompted adjusted hours of noon to 3 p.m. for both Saturday and Sunday. To celebrate the season opener — and to encourage brave swimmers — admission will be free for all visitors, regardless of residency status, on both days.

At the heart of the festivities is the “Jump into Summer” Penguin Plunge, a facility-wide plunge into the cool waters at 1:30 p.m., followed by a community poolside selfie.

Swimmers are encouraged to bundle up in robes, towels, and wool hats for the occasion.

“We know how excited our community is to get back to Menlo each summer, and we did not want chilly weather to dampen the fun,” said Dave Worthington, chair of the Parks & Recreation Committee of Perkasie Borough Council. “This Penguin Plunge is a lighthearted way to jump-start the season and celebrate the return of summer at Menlo with neighbors and friends. Bring a blanket!”

Those who prefer to stay dry can still take part in the celebration by enjoying classic lawn games such as Connect Four, Jenga, and Cornhole. A variety of warm treats, including hot dogs and hot chocolate, will be available from the Rita’s-operated snack stand.

Guests attending on Saturday or Sunday who sign up for a 2025 Menlo Membership will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 snack stand gift card. Membership perks include discounted programs and swim lessons, reduced guest rates, early pool access, birthday party discounts, and invitations to exclusive members-only events.

Residents curious about membership can arrive early on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., for an Open House tour, with opportunities to meet staff, explore the facility, and ask questions prior to the noon opening.

Menlo will also be open on Monday from noon to 6 p.m. for the Memorial Day holiday, with standard admission rates and rules in effect.
