May is Lyme Awareness Month and Pennsylvania leads the nation in cases of Lyme and tick-borne diseases. Bucks County is the second-highest county in PA for Lyme, and our youth are at the highest risk due to outdoor activities.
Getting outdoors is important for physical and mental wellbeing, but it is also important to take preventative measures against ticks and the multiple diseases they can carry.
For this reason, 29 local aspiring young artists are using art to raise awareness.
Now through June 30, their two collaborative paintings Camelback Bridge Over the Delaware Canal and Limes for Lyme (shown here) will be on silent auction and on display at Countryside Gallery in historic Newtown. Bids can be placed in person at the gallery or by email at [email protected].
If bidding via email, please state the title of the painting you are bidding on. Bidding ends June 30th and the highest bidder will be notified the first week of July. Posters and notecards of previous student collaborative paintings, Springtime at Tyler Park and Sunset over Schofield Ford Covered Bridge, will be on sale with 100% of proceeds donated to PaLyme.org.
Visit the PaLyme.org website for important info on preventing tick bites, tick proofing your yard, protecting your pets, what to do if bitten by a tick, and where to send the tick for testing.
To view the artwork and place a bid on the collaborative paintings, which are signed by all 29 students who participated in the creation of the paintings, visit 2 South State Street in historic Newtown.
Free Lyme prevention brochures from the Pennsylvania Lyme Resource Network will be available at the display. Call for hours: 215-968-2246.
