Central Bucks School District recently made a change to the age of admission for student enrollment in kindergarten.
For many years, students had to be five years of age on or before August 31 of the year in which they would attend kindergarten.
Effective beginning the 2025-26 school year, students may be admitted to kindergarten who will be five years of age from September 1 through October 31.
Per the revised policy, to be admitted into kindergarten, children who turn five years of age from September 1 through October 31 of their proposed kindergarten year must demonstrate readiness for entry by the first day of the school term, upon written parental request, recommendation of the district personnel, and approval of the superintendent, in accordance with established administrative regulations.
These students will be assessed using the Bracken School Readiness Assessment, which focuses on colors, letters, numbers, counting, size/comparison, shapes, and self and social awareness skills.
Students who will be five on or before August 31 still automatically qualify for kindergarten.

The district will begin reaching out to families to schedule assessments in April.
Assessments will be completed no later than June 15 and will be administered by district staff. Once the assessments are scored, families will be notified if their child has qualified for kindergarten admission along with the scores their child received on the assessment.
The district’s decision will be final.
