A routine investigation into an illegally parked vehicle at Wegmans in Warrington Township turned into something much more when police responded to a call about a retail theft in progress.
Authorities quickly connected the theft to Casey Lou Schumann, 38, a township resident, who was caught trying to walk out of the store with more than $20 worth of merchandise without paying, police said.
She is charged with felony counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property and misdemeanor drug possession offenses, per court documents.
Schumann – who had allegedly purchased a drink, but neglected to pay for other items – was detained by store loss prevention, police said. Upon her arrest, a search revealed narcotics and drug paraphernalia, per investigators.
Schumann told police her car was parked in a fire lane because she was unable to remove the ignition key, according to authorities.
She is free on $25,000 unsecured bail, according to court records.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
