Bucks and Montgomery County high school students are showcasing their talents at the highly anticipated 38th Annual “Touch the Future” Art Show, now open to the public at the Montgomery County Community College’s Montco Cultural Center Fine Arts Center Gallery.
The exhibit, which opened on Sunday, features 106 student artworks from 28 local public high schools. A colorful celebration of creativity, the event offers a glimpse into the future of art through the eyes of young, aspiring artists, according to a news release.
The “Touch the Future” art show is more than just an exhibition — it is a tribute to Christa McAuliffe, the NASA teacher and astronaut who perished in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986, per a news release. McAuliffe’s dedication to education and her belief that “I touch the future… I teach” serves as the inspiration for the event.
Sponsored by the Mideastern Region of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (MER/PSEA) and the Council for the Advancement of Public Schools (CAPS), the show is a celebration of both artistry and education, and a testament to the potential of the next generation.
This year’s show features a range of art categories, from traditional drawing and painting to digital imaging and photography. Whether it is the meticulous detail of a black-and-white drawing or the bold, dynamic colors of a mixed-media piece, there’s something for every art lover, per the release.
The juried competition is no easy feat, with Em Kleaver, admissions counselor at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and Architecture, selecting the winning works. The awards ceremony, held Sunday, honored students’ incredible artistic achievements, with prizes totaling more than $3,500.
The art exhibit will remain open to the public until March 28.
Featured categories include Digital Photography, Sculpture, Drawing Black & White, Color Drawing, Painting, 2D Mixed Media, 2D Design and Printmaking, Digital Imaging/Computer Graphics/Computer Animation, Photography – Digital Photography and Traditional Silver Print, 3D Mixed Media Sculpture, 3D Single Medium Sculpture, and 3D Functional.
With spring break just around the corner, be sure to stop by before the gallery closes from March 9-15.
