A man has been charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure for allegedly exposing his genitals, masturbating and defecating outside Yum Yum Bake Shop in Colmar last weekend.

Gary Thomas Manai, 68, who police said is homeless but resides in the Lansdale area, was charged Sunday by Hatfield Township Police, according to court documents. Manai also faces a summary charge of disorderly conduct.

Police were dispatched to Dairy Queen at 2620 North Broad St. at 8:53 p.m. June 21 for a report of a man exposing himself in the parking lot. While en route, police were informed by Montgomery County Emergency Services that Manai was wearing a red shirt, black shorts, and carrying a white Target bag, according to the complaint.

Upon arrival, police found Manai standing in front of the Dairy Queen, and was known from prior police contacts, according to the complaint.

The caller told police that she, her husband and their 9-year-old daughter were inside of their vehicle in the drive-through of Dairy Queen, when she saw Manai standing next to Yum Yum Bake Shop at 100 Bethlehem Pike, police said.

The caller saw Manai drop his pants, fully exposing himself with his genitals in his hand, police said. She said she saw Manai moving his hands in an “up and down motion” while his pants were down, police said.

Police said the woman is the only person inside the car that saw Manai’s genitals. Manai also defecated on the sidewalk, police allege, before walking up to each car in the drive-through at Dairy Queen repeatedly requesting a lighter for his cigarette.

Police said fecal matter was found on the sidewalk outside Yum Yum Bake Shop.

Manai was arrested, arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine, jailed, and then released on $5,000 unsecured bail per court order, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

According to court documents, Manai has a pre-trial conference/guilty plea hearing set for July 17 in Bucks County Common Pleas Court, stemming from a January 2025 arrest in Hilltown Township for misdemeanor defiant trespassing. In that case, bail was set at 10% of $10,000 cash, then changed in February to $10,000 unsecured bail.

Manai is represented in the Bucks County case by public defender Mary McAloon.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
