Beachstock kicks off summer in Downbeach

  • Jersey Shore

The 14th annual Beachstock: The Planet’s Biggest Beach Party promises lots of hot fun to kick off summer in Margate.

The beach between Huntington and Granville avenues will host the annual event Saturday. There will be plenty to see, hear, taste and do.

Admission is free and beach tags are not required at the event.

The event organized by the Margate Business Association in partnership with the city draws more than 5,000 visitors each year.

The highlight of the summer season, Beachstock is a daylong celebration of Margate’s beautiful seaside community, complete with dozens of food vendors, crafters, live entertainment, athletic activities, ice cold beverages, a twilight bonfire, kids movie and environmental exhibits courtesy of Sustainable Downbeach.

This year's new media partners Cat Country 107.3 and ESPN Sports Radion 97.3 will offer giveaways and fun activities.

Visitors can meet the newly crowned Miss New Jersey at her first public appearance in the Downbeach area, and take a photo with the twin Lombardi trophy awarded to the Philadelphia Eagles in their triumphant Super Bowl LII win over the New England Patriots.

New food vendors include DonutNV, Margate Clam Shack, Squeezies Lemonade, Philly Pretzel Factory and The Other Lucy.  Beachstock mainstays Margate Dairy Bar & Burger, Cali Shakes, Tacocat and South Jersey Smoke House will wow with flavor-filled offerings.

There will be more kids activities, an eclectic live music line-up, free wiffle ball home run derby, sand sculpting, surfing lessons with Stacey’s Surf Camp, kite demos courtesy of Air Circus, the Margate Cornhole League Tournament and AC Volleyball Factory tournament. Pickle Juice’s beachfront pickleball will offer clinics and a tournament. There will also be a waterfront Tiki Bar with several new and refreshing adult beverages to sample and purchase.

The main stage rocks all day starting at 11:30 a.m. with favorites by Sunrise Cries and Mas Tequila Orchestra.  Performers from The Hook will amaze the audience with family friendly feats, and Beachstock regulars, the South Pacific Island Dancers, will mesmerize with traditional dances. Then, Nikki Briar electrifies the crowd with a hot set of country hits. Finally, NJ British Invasion headlines the main stage at 8:30 p.m. with iconic hits from the Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Who. At 6:30 p.m., kids can settle in with a sunset movie, “Moana 2.”  A roaring beach bonfire accompanies the entertainment, setting a beautiful scene as day turns to night.

From noon until 4 p.m., the Kid’s Stage is jam packed with a variety of entertainment experiences, including fun with hula hoops, Miss New Jersey, performances by students of Suzie Neustadter’s music school, an eco-friendly treasure hunt, limbo challenges with the South Pacific Island Dancers, Wawa giveaways and more.

Alleviate parking hassles on a busy summer weekend and enjoy complimentary free parking at the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School parking lot. A free jitney will be in service to pick up and disburse riders from the school and along Atlantic Avenue between Coolidge and Fredericksburg avenues.
