New Britain Township Police have welcomed a new member to its ranks and recognized the efforts of other officers at this month’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Marc Weilandics was sworn in as an entry level police officer on Monday night. Weilandics is a native of Long Island, NY and has seven years of policing experience from the NYPD where he spent time patrolling the neighborhoods of Harlem and Astoria, according to police.

In his free time, Weilandics enjoys woodworking, cooking, hiking and spending time with his wife and children.

In other police news, citations of commendation were presented to Officer Daniel Gonzalez and Detective Corporal Shawn Maguire.

Gonzalez was presented with a commendation for spending critical time building a rapport with a suicidal subject that could not be located, police said. He was instrumental in coordinating the search for and successful finding of the subject.

Maguire was presented with a commendation for his outstanding investigative skills that led to the identification and charging of a burglary suspect that was found to be part of an organized crime syndicate out of New York, according to police.

On Feb. 13, a residence was forcibly burglarized while residents were away on vacation. Maguire spent hours reviewing surveillance video of the burglary, developing a suspect vehicle with a stolen tag, and associating the vehicle with that of a prior theft from the vehicle of the burglary victims, police said.

Maguire found similar burglaries in the area that were linked to a South American theft group and spoke to multiple out-of-state investigators who linked a suspect to the car, police said.

Police said Maguire was able to identify one of the actors and file felony charges against him.

The suspect refused extradition from New York to face charges and Maguire had to obtain a Governor’s warrant, police said.
