After six months in the court system, and after four rescheduled preliminary hearings, a Philadelphia man had felony retail theft and receiving stolen property dismissed this month at a preliminary hearing after being accused of stealing more than 250 pairs of sunglasses from his job.
Kenneth Gibson, 42, was charged by Warrington Township Police in January with stealing 280 pairs of sunglasses worth $8,560, police said.
On July 11, 2024, LensCrafters Asset Protection contacted police about an employee theft.
An investigation found that Gibson was allegedly stealing merchandise and then selling the stolen merchandise online. Gibson was interviewed by authorities and admitted to stealing them, police said.
He was arrested in Lower Frederick Township in January, arraigned and released on $15,000 unsecured bail, per court records. A preliminary hearing was originally scheduled for Jan. 27 before Magisterial District Judge Stacy Wertman; it was continued four times to Feb. 24, then March 24, then April 28, and finally June 9.
Gibson was represented by Doylestown attorney Robert Mancini.
