A small tan kitten discovered earlier this month in the engine compartment of State Sen. Frank Farry’s SUV has found a permanent home with the senator and his family.
The cat, which was first named “Frankie” by the Women’s Animal Center in Bensalem Township, was officially adopted by Farry, his wife Kristen, and their children last week.
An online poll conducted by the family led to the cat’s new name: Muffy Frankie Farry.
The Republican state senator reported that Muffy, which is short for muffler, is happy and adjusting well to her new life, which includes living with the family’s puppy.
The kitten’s journey to the Farry household began when the senator was en route to a conference in Bethlehem. He noticed unusual noises coming from his vehicle.
“I heard this noise in my car. I’m like, what is that? So I turned the radio down,” Farry said. “I think there’s an animal in my car that sounds like a cat.”
After pulling over to investigate, Farry checked the wheel wells but couldn’t find the source of the meowing. It wasn’t until he turned off the engine and opened the hood that he spotted the kitten looking back at him.
“The cat sees me and it backed in the engine compartment further,” Farry explained.
Middletown Township Animal Control Officer Cheyenne Keen removed the kitten from its hiding spot and transported it to the Women’s Animal Center.
Aside from a few fleas and a need for cleaning, the cat was in good health.
After talking with a neighbor, Farry suspects the kitten may have sought refuge in his SUV to escape a fox that had recently been sighted in the neighborhood.
